The Muslim population in Gloucester is around 3500 and they first settled here in the late 1950's. There are two Mosques to cater for the growing Muslim community.

The Muslim community primarily reside within walking distance of both the Mosques, the girls Islamic school & the City center.

About Association
The Welfare association was established in 1961, with the responsibilty for a number of initiatives, which include:

  • Masjid - E - Noor
  • Islamic Academy
  • Islamic Secondary School for Girls.

The Association is made up of members of the Muslim community of Gloucester with a variety of backgrounds, representing the various areas of origination from the sub-continent.

About School
The Islamic Secondary School for Girls opened on 6th September 1994 with 2 classes & 35 girls.

The school achieved DfEE (Department of Education and Employment) status in 1997 and now has over 100 pupils and 7 classes (2 of which are 6th form).

The School is fully committed to meeting the requirements of the National Curriculum alongside Islamic education.

About Academy
The Islamic Academy was formed in 1994 with a number of aims in mind. More on its site.

One of its aims is to promote the cause of Islam both among Muslims and non-Muslims through publication of authentic Islamic literature.

This is done through the publication of the Light of Islam newsletter which is produced monthly.
